'Twisted' - Sedona - Arizona - USA
Bristlecone Pine trees are a species of pine tree that are known for their ability to live for thousands of years. They are found at high elevations in the western United States, primarily in the White Mountains of California, the Snake Range in Nevada, and the San Francisco Peaks in Arizona. They are distinguished by their twisted, gnarled trunks and branches, and their deeply furrowed bark. Their wood is extremely dense and resinous, making it resistant to rot and insects, which helps them to live for so long. They are also adapted to survive in harsh, arid environments, where they can survive with very little water. Bristlecone pines are considered to be living fossils, and are some of the oldest living organisms on Earth.
This particular tree was photographed in Sedona, Arizona and is captured in large format black and white with the stunning Sedona mountains in the background. When viewed in large format like this, it really is like you are actually there.
