It is situated on the Rio Grande, between Santa Fe and Taos, and is known for its beautiful Spanish colonial architecture and its famous Sanctuario de Chimayo, a Catholic church that is considered one of the most important religious pilgrimage sites in the United States. The Sanctuario de Chimayo is said to have healing powers and is visited by thousands of people each year, who come to pray and leave offerings of gratitude. The Chimayo valley also known for its traditional weavings and textiles and is a popular destination for tourists and art lovers.
